Fundraiser Started to Honor 3 Children Killed in Tragic Houston House Fire
Money raised will be used to honor the children and raise awareness about fire safety.

On February 16th, a tragic house fire in Houston killed Colette Nguyen (5), Edison Nguyen (8), and Olivia Nguyen (11), along with their 75-year-old grandmother. The Houston Chronicle reported that the Sugar Land Fire Department was dispatched to the house around 2 am in the morning, where they found a house that was already engulfed in flames. Firefighters arrived at the scene and had to restrain the mother of the children, who had suffered burn injuries but is expected to survive, from rushing back into the burning home.
With widespread power outages sweeping through the region in the face of a devastating winter storm that’s paralyzed the state of Texas, it’s thought that the family was trying to stay warm using a fireplace.
A representative from the Sugar Land Fire Department issued the following statement, “Obviously they were trying to stay warm. We can’t say that’s what the cause was, we just think we know they were using a fireplace.”
Since the tragedy, a fundraiser has been started on GoFundMe by the family. The money raised will be used to start a foundation to honor the children and raise awareness about fire safety to prevent tragedies like this from happening to others.
