A homicide investigation has been launched after Jia Jia, a 44-year-old Asian woman and her 8-year-old daughter Ruby Meng, were fatally stabbed inside a Rancho Cucamonga home in California, as reported by KTLA5 and the Los Angeles Times.

Officers responded to the scene at around 3 am after receiving a 911 call about an “unknown problem” in the 6800 block of Bergano Place. After responding to the scene, they found the bodies of Jia and Meng lying inside, along with a third woman who was injured but is expected to recover.

At this point, it’s still unclear how the suspect broke into the home. However, it’s believed that the suspect entered the bedroom, stabbed the victims, then escaped through a sliding door in the rear of the home.

A neighbor told KTLA-TV, “My husband woke up to a deep scream. It was the kind of scream that someone was being tortured or in a lot of pain.”

The community is still reeling over the incident as police continue to search for the perpetrator responsible.
