21-Year-Old South Asian Woman Suffers Devastating Injuries After Being Randomly Attacked with Acid in New York

The unidentified attacker is seen running towards Nafiah after she exits the car, throwing the acid in her face, then taking off in the opposite direction.

A 21-year-old South Asian woman, identified by her first name Nafiah, suffered devastating injuries after being randomly attacked with acid in Long Island, New York. The attack occurred on the night of March 17th as Nafiah and her mother were walking to their home and was caught by nearby surveillance cameras. The unidentified attacker is seen running towards Nafiah after she exits the car, throwing the acid in her face, then taking off in the opposite direction.

According to the description of a GoFundMe setup by a friend of the victim’s family, Nafiah screamed after the attack, causing the acid to go into her mouth. Her tongue and throat were immediately burned, preventing her from breathing. Nafiah then ran into her home, where her parents helped her, burning their own hands and forearms in the process. Had her parents not been home to call 911, the family believes Nafiah wouldn’t have survived the attack.

The acid caused severe burning on Nafiah’s face, eyes, chest, and arms. She was wearing contact lenses during the time of the attack and the acid caused the lenses to melt into her eyes - the family doesn’t know if Nafiah will ever regain her vision.

Local police officials are still investigating the incident and are asking for the public’s assistance to identify the suspect. A police statement that can be seen below said the suspect fled the scene in a red 2013-2015 Nissan Altima with fog lights.
