The Filipino man required stitches after being attacked in a New York subway.
A 52-year-old Filipino man was attacked after trying to defend a fellow Asian American on Tuesday morning, June 8th, in the Upper East Side of New York City. The man (who wishes to remain unnamed) initially stepped out of the train, and instantly noticed the assailant yelling "Go back to where you came from" and attacking another Asian American.
The victim barely managed to escape, before the assailant turned around and started pummeling the elderly Filipino man. As the new victim, he was punched in the face repeatedly as the assailant screamed, "Go back to where you came from." The Filipino man suffers with severe bruises on his face and a bloody nose.
The victim told ABC 7 NYC that "It seemed so random and sudden. Kinda realized it's potentially a hate crime because of what the man was shouting and what was said." A bystander later went up to the victim and apologized for running away after seeing him being beaten up. Police are currently investigating the incident.
