Leo the Yorkshire Terrier Comes Home After Being Kidnapped in SF

A heartwarming story of reunion.

Leo the Yorkshire Terrier was found Sunday, June 13 after being kidnapped from his owner's car in San Francisco last week. SFPD received a tip about the location of Leo, and rescued the dog. Leo was then returned to his owners Jacqueline Zavala Lee and Refugio Zavala. Although no specific arrest was made, police said anyone with information should contact SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411.

SFPD made a later statement explaining the situation, citing that the victims Lee and Zavala were in the city for their 12th anniversary, and that Leo was left in the car near Powell Street and North Beach. However, this sweet moment was cut short because when returning from their anniversary date, they found that their window was smashed in, their briefcase was stolen, and Leo was nowhere to be found.

Although everything seems to have cleared up now, Officer Robert Rueca from the SF Police Department explained that due to the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, more people feel safe to go outside and in turn police are “experiencing an uptick” in car break-ins.
