The ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Sequel is Set to Welcome New Writer Amy Wang Following a Pay Controversy With Former Writers Adele Lim and Peter Chiarelli

Wang is an accomplished writer and director, currently working on projects such as Netflix’s ‘Brothers Sun’ and a horror feature for Paramount Players/QC Entertainment.

The ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ sequel has set Amy Wang to take on sole writing duties, as reported by Deadline.

Wang is an accomplished writer and director, currently working on projects such as Netflix’s ‘Brothers Sun’ and a horror feature for Paramount Players/QC Entertainment.

She’s set to replace former writers Adele Lim and Peter Chiarelli after a 2019 pay controversy in which it was revealed that Lim had been paid nearly ten times less than her counterpart Chiarelli.

The drastic pay difference was attributed to experience, with the studio stating that Chiarelli had worked on several feature-length projects in the past, but Lim had mostly worked in television.

Following the news, Lim walked out from both of the planned sequels, with director Jon M. Chu saying that he stands with Lim and is proud “that she was able to stand up for her own measure of worth and walk away when she felt like she was being undervalued.”

After the news publicly broke, Chu also tried to speak with both Lim and studio executives to reach parity, but it was reported that by that time “a lot of time had passed and she declined the offer.”
