Legendary Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu has announced his retirement from competition.

The announcement marks the end of a spectacular career which saw Hanyu break more than a dozen world records and capture two Olympic gold medals. Although he’s stepping away from competition, Hanyu said that he’ll still continue his career as a professional athlete, striving to achieve the fabled quadruple axel which has never been completed in competition.
