Japan defeated Spain at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in a stunning upset that eliminated Germany from contention.

Spain took early control of the game, but Japan was able to score two goals in the first seven minutes of the second half, including a second goal that was subject to a controversial VAR decision that maintained that the ball hadn’t fully crossed out of bounds and remained in play.

With the win, Japan is set to face off against Croatia in the Round of 16.
